OUR ULTIMATE GUIDE TO CARING FOR YOUR LEATHER BELT

How to care for your Leather Belt.

1. Regularly clean your belt with a soft brush or damp cloth to get rid of any dirt or dust. Ensure the belt is dry before storing it. Let the belt dry naturally out of direct sunlight or heat.

2. Ideally leather belts should be stored hanging so that they don't crease or bend. They should be hung in a cool, dry place.

3. Every 4-6 months, apply leather conditioner. This will help prevent cracking and ensure the leather maintains its natural flexibility.

  • gently rub the conditioner into both sides of the leather belt with a dry cloth.
  • allow it too soak up and dry completely before storing.

4. Every 6-12 months, apply leather wax. This provides a waterproof coating, rejuvinates the colour and helps prevent cracking.

  • apply a thin even coat, rubbing thoroughly into the leather belt.
  • repeat with 2-3 coats and then wipe off any excess with a dry cloth.
  • ensure the belt is completely dry before storing it.

Suede and Nubuck Leather Belts

5. Use a suede specific brush to wipe away any dirt and grime.

6. Use a specialised suede protectant spray.

7. Avoid water and sweat where possible.

Note:
Humidity is not your friend. The leather will become mouldy and take on a mildew smell that is almost impossible to remove. (you can try vinegar and bicarb soda)

Do not use a hairdryer or any other heat device to dry your wet belt. It will cause it to crack. Simply pat the belt dry, apply some leather conditioner and then let naturally dry before storing it.

Always spot test any new cleaning products in an inconspicuous spot first.
